How to organize your comic collection
This tutorial will show you how you can easily organize your comic collection. It details on how to set the number of copies of comic issues, how to filter the list of issues displayed, how to share lists of (e.g.) missing issues with your friends and on how to update or delete comic series on your iPhone.
Keeping track of the number of copies in your comic collection
iCdb can maintain the number issue copies you own. This helps you to organize your comic collection. At a glance you can see which comics you own, which are missing and which comics you have more than once.
Follow these steps to update the copy count for the comic issues in your comic collection:
-
Navigate to the comic series you would like to update
Go to the catalog section of iCdb and tap "All Publishers" or pick a specific publisher from the list. From the list of comic series choose the series you would like to update. -
Enter edit mode
To be able to update the copy count, you have to set iCdb to edit mode. In the lower left-hand corner you see a little square with a pencil. Tap it to enter edit mode. Once you do that plus/minus buttons will slide in from the right for each row. -
Update the copy count
For each issue in the list tap the plus or minus button to adjust the number of copies you own. The number and color of the badge to the left of the issues title will change accordingly:

A grey badge indicates that the issue is still missing.
If you have exactly one copy of an issue in your collection the badge will turn green.
A red badge indicates that you have two or more copies of that issue in your collection. The number on the badge tells you exactly how many copies there are. -
Leave edit mode
During edit mode you are not able to go to the details view for a specific comic. To leave edit either tap the edit icon in the lower left-hand corner or go back to list of series.
Filter the list of issues
Especially for comic series with a large number of issues it is important to filter the list of issues displayed. At the bottom of the list of issues screen you find four buttons that control, which issues are displayed based on the number of copies you own.
| All | This filter displays all available issues regardless of the number of copies in your comic collection. |
| Missing | If you want to display only those issues that are still missing in your collection, tap the button labeled "Missing". This is especially useful when you are the comic store to buy new comics. |
| Owned | When activated this filter shows all issues which you have at least once in your collection. |
| Doublets | This filter shows only those issues you have more than once. |
Share the list of issues with your friends
It is sometimes helpful to share lists of comics with your friends. This way you can exchange lists of issues you have more than once in order to trade these issues with others. Or maybe you want to send the list of missing issues to your friends so they can pick presents for your birthday. Whatever usage you have in mind sharing these lists is very easy.
-
Filter the list of issues
As described above filter the list of issues by tapping one of the buttons at the bottom of the list of issues screen. -
Send the currently selected list of issues via email
In the lower right-hand corner you can see a little white envelope. Tap it and the currently selected list of issues will be attached to an email. The list is conveniently formated as csv file and can easily be imported into spreadsheet or database applications.
Update or delete comic series on your iPhone
When you download comic series to your iPhone the currently available data is transferred to the comic database on your mobile phone. Since the online database is updated constantly, it may be necessary to refresh and synchronize your local database with the online database. During that process the bibliographic data as well as the comic covers are updated. In order to update or delete comic series follow these steps:
-
Navigate to the comic series view
Go to the catalog section of iCdb and tap "All Publishers" or pick a specific publisher from the list. -
Enter edit mode
In the upper right-hand corner you find an edit button. Tap it to enter edit mode. For each row two buttons will slide in. -
Update or delete the series data
If you tab the button with the circular arrow the update process will start immediatly. The biblographic data and newly added comic covers will be downloaded from our server to your iPone.
If you tab the button with the x a confirmation dialog will appear. If you choose to delete the comic series all bibligrpahic data and comic covers will be removed from your mobile phone.
